WELDING MACHINE DAILY CHECKLIST INSPECTION FORM REPORT

Welding machine is a tool used to connect a metal. Welding is a process of joining metals by melting some of the base metal with filler metal into one.

Meanwhile, Welding is one of the metal joining techniques in a job by melting some of the base metal and filler metal with or without pressure and with or without added metal and produces a continuous connection.

General Steps of the Welding Process

  • Clean the material to be welded.
  • Place the material to be welded in the place that has been prepared.
  • Place the mass of the welding machine on one side of the material to be welded.
  • After the material is ready to be welded, slowly bring the tip of the electrode to the material to be welded.

How does the welding machine work? Is electric arc welding or in general also known as electric welding, including a metal joining process using electricity as a heat source. The electrode melts the base metal and forms the weld slag at the same time; the tip of the electrode melts and mixes with the material being welded.

Types of Welding

The 3 most common welding methods used in the world. The following are the differences from each of the above methods:

Shielded Metal Arc Welding

This process is sometimes called Stick Welding, because the use of electrodes in the process produces a stick-like shape. In the Shielded Metal Arc Welding welding process the protector used is a flux membrane found on the electrode, this flux functions to protect the molten metal during the welding process. Because during the process consumes the finished electrode must be replaced periodically.

Shielded Metal Arc welding produces the strongest joining compared to other welding methods. This method is best applied in construction and industry, because it can be used for almost all types of metal with various thicknesses. Another advantage of Shielded Metal Arc Welding is that it can be used for all types of weather such as rain, sand or snow.

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding

Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) or commonly called TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas). This type uses a tungsten electrode to produce the weld. Unlike Shielded Metal Arc Welding, this type of welding requires Argon gas to weld. Tungsten can withstand very high temperatures so it does not melt and is consumed during welding, unlike Shielded Metal Arc Welding and Gas tungsten arc welding. These electrodes are used to melt and create a weld pool so that the metals are connected.

This TIG method requires special expertise, because if done correctly it can produce very neat and smooth welds that are pleasing to the eye, suitable for application to visible welding media and thin materials. This method is often used for shipbuilding, automotive and aircraft manufacturing. Because the process is difficult, the welding process with this method takes longer compared to the others.

Gas Metal Arc Welding

Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is also often referred to as Metal Inert Gas (MIG), in fact MIG is a type of Gas metal arc welding itself. This method uses a long roll of electrodes which melt together with the metal to create a weld pool. Continuously melting electrodes provide a constant flow of weld which helps prevent contamination and weld mess.

This method is a welding method that is quite easy to learn because it is easy to control the speed of the welding wire, and does not have to replace it continuously unlike Shielded Metal Arc Welding.

This method is also one of the most efficient in the world of welding. Because it can quickly combine metals with short waiting times. But the equipment for this Gas metal arc welding method is quite expensive when compared to the other two methods.
